It’s hard enough walking past the array of cakes and sandwiches on offer at cafes at the best of time, let alone when they start bringing out their christmas options. Luckily for us, 2016 has been the year of veganism, and christmas vegan options at cafes like Costa and Pret are finally arriving! *Vegans cheer everywhere*.

Pret a Manger

Just yesterday they announced their brand new vegan baguette, and it’s as christmassy as it can get. Expect “grilled carrots, parsnip puree and crispy onions with festive chutney, toasted pistachios and peppery watercress.” Yes please!

Who needs animal carcass in a sandwich at christmas? Definitely not me, and Pret are catching up on what consumers want!

Don’t forget that their hot chocolate powder is vegan, so enjoy it with soy milk or try their coconut hot chocolate. Doesn’t get much more festive than that.

Caffè Nero

Lord have mercy, Cafe Nero’s mince pies are suitable for vegans! Enjoy “Shortcrust pastry filled with our special mincemeat recipe with cranberries, apples and a touch of mixed spice.”. There is nothing not to love about this, and shows just how easy it is to make so many things vegan. All that took was using a plant-based milk!

Drinks wise, remember that all of these are vegan too when you change the milk:

  • Range of Teas
  • Americano
  • Cappuccino
  • Latte
  • Frappes Latte
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Mocha

Costa:

christmas vegan options

Costa has gone above and beyond this year, with a VEGAN CHRISTMAS CAKE! You read that right, we get our very own cake, and I am very excited indeed. It’s gluten-free too, and as christmassy as santa singing jingle bells.

Feel free to try the spiced apple drink too, complete with floating pieces of cinnamon!

For hot drinks, you can go to town on pretty much all of them, as long as you substitute the milk of course. The syrups are 99% vegan, just avoid the white chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, Belgian chocolate lattice and Belgian chocolate blossoms.

Enjoy your gingerbread lattes and cinnamon hot chocolate! Christmas vegan options have never been better. And who knows, they might be even better next year!
