Fortify Cafe is one of those vegan spots where you instantly feel at home. From the cozy design of the interior to the utterly mouth-watering food on display, you’ll never want to leave.

I’ve been to Fortify Cafe around 5 times now, but have never been in before 12pm or on a Sunday, in order to try their breakfasts.

Before going vegan, a fry up is something I would have way too regularly. But now, I can’t even remember the last time I sat down to a plate of English deliciousness. (Without the cruelty of course).

Admittedly, I was a little skeptical. Tofu and I have a bit of a love hate thing going on. So, the thought of scrambled tofu as a replacement for egg was something I was apprehensive about to say the least.

Yet, along with everything else I’ve ever had at Fortify Cafe, the whole thing was amazing.

We decided to go for the Fortify Breakfast, swapping the mushrooms for an extra sausage.

From the generous helping of toast to the unbelievably realistic sausages, it was flawless. The mock bacon was more like ham, but was still good with me, and the beans and tomato were perfect too.

In fact, perhaps the best part of the meal was the tofu! A rich yellow instead of a miserable looking beige, it wasn’t chewy nor flavorless, and was the perfect egg replacement.

If two tofu-skeptics can love it, anyone can!

A former sausage roll addict, I couldn’t leave without having their vegan option. I really like how it didn’t try too hard to imitate a regular sausage roll, the inside was lighter and not a kind of mock meat. The closest resemblance I can think of is stuffing, and it worked really well with the soft, flaky pastry.

As I have the appetite of a middle-aged van driver, I couldn’t just leave at that. Add on a massive slab of brownie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and I was good to go.

I asked a member of staff to warm the brownie up a tad for me, and it made it utterly irresistible. The top layer was crispy, as if it was fresh out the oven, and the inside was gooey and melted, oozing all over the plate.

Feed this to a non-vegan, and I will bet you that they wouldn’t even come close to noticing that this is a cruelty free version.

Nat went for a slice of chocolate cake, complete with adorable chocolate buttons on top, and a scoop of ice cream. He gets this every time we come, and it’s clear this is his favourite thing here.

As well as being a café, Fortify has little bits and pieces on sale too. Having been craving buying some Nutritional Yeast for ages now, I managed to get a tub, fortified with B12, for only £2.99!

Cakes at @fortifycafe are available to eat in or takeaway! We now have a wide range of cakes from wheat free, gluten free, raw cakes etc. We like to cater for everybody here so if you would like a slice of Guinness cake, Carrot Cake, Raw Bounty Slice, Chocolate Cake. The menu isn’t massive and the café is kind of small, but honestly, it’s everything you could need. It’s got to be one of the rare places I go to and would happily order anything off the menu. I’m yet to try the soups and stews, as well as the quinoa bake, which looks incredible.

The English Breakfast has given me another good reason to head back to Fortify Cafe, and I’m sure I’ll be here many times again.

Fortify Cafe, Will We Come Again?
