Succeed in Veganuary
It’s the beginning of a new year and you’re (hopefully) starting Veganuary. It might be your first time living a vegan lifestyle and exposing yourself to a different way of living. Lots of people can struggle when they first try going vegan but there’s a few golden tips that will help you succeed in Veganuary. Stick to these and you’ll find keeping vegan a breeze.
Plant foods naturally have a lower amount of calories and can leave you feeling less satiated. The key to eating vegan is eating more. You’ve cut out animal products which is great, your body will be feeling better than ever. But you still need to keep focused on what you’re actually consuming. Just because avocados and olive oil are vegan doesn’t mean they’re good for you.
Stick to eating a high carbohydrate, whole foods diet that doesn’t include too much fat. That way you’ll feel satisfied after every meal and wont be getting hungry. Think pasta, rice, potatoes lots of fruit and vegetables. You’ll have stacks more energy too!
Explore the amazing treats
Vegan food doesn’t mean leafy greens for breakfast lunch and dinner. Yesterday I had two chocolate chip cookies and a vegan cookie dough ice cream. I also had vegan ‘pork’ pies and a delicious home-made pizza with cheese and vegan chorizo.
There’s plenty to experiment with, pretty much every food you can think of you ate as meat eater, you can also eat as a vegan. It’s easy to get these foods too, check out places like Whole Foods, pretty much any supermarket and even Amazon.
Keep educating yourself
If you haven’t already, immerse yourself in the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. There’s everything from the health benefits, to the environment and the fact you’re saving hundreds of animals every year. The number one way to reduce your environmental impact is to live a vegan lifestyle.
Eating 1 hamburger uses as much water as you showering for a month. That’s insane. All animals have a right to life as much as you and I, we’ve created a world where it’s more weird to eat plants than it is to murder and exploit 70 BILLION animals a year.
Education is the best way to making sure you stick to being vegan. Once you understand why you need to be living that way it’s impossible to go back.
Perhaps you’re more into Youtube? Try watching Dr Greger on nutritionfacts.org or Bitesized Vegan. If you’re into sport and fitness check out Durianrider.
It’s going to be as hard as you make it. The main things to help you succeed in Veganuary is 1) to eat plenty and 2) to truly educate yourself.
Just remember everyday you’re vegan you’re promoting health, saving lives and protecting the environment. The more people turning to a vegan lifestyle the happier and healthier the world will be.
