Gift card company GiftRocket has cut ties with SeaWorld following a campaign by animal rights activists.
Previously, SeaWorld was found on GiftRockets list of suggested gift card options.
GiftRocket now joins other companies ditching SeaWorld such as Hyundai Motor America, Panama Jack, Taco Bell, Thomas Cook, and WestJet, JetBlue, and Southwest Airlines.
PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement:
“No compassionate company today is willing to support SeaWorld’s orca prisons,”
“PETA is recognizing GiftRocket for promptly dropping SeaWorld and is calling on consumers everywhere to stand up for animals by refusing to buy a ticket to these parks or any other animal-exploiting operation.”
To say thank you for dropping SeaWorld from its gift options, PETA sent GiftRocket a box of vegan whale-shaped chocolates.
At least 40 orcas, over 300 other dolphins and whales, and approximately 450 seals have died at SeaWorld parks.
In response to the growing backlash over their treatment of animals such as Orcas, in recent years, SeaWorld has also stopped its Orca breeding programme.
Documentaries such as Blackfish have also had a serious impact on the way customers view SeaWorld and the animals within it.
