High-street bakery Greggs has announced that it is currently testing a vegan sausage roll at their Head Office.
Famous for their pork sausage rolls and meat pies, Greggs have been working on creating a more vegan-friendly menu.
Chief Executive of Greggs, Roger Whiteside, said earlier this year that Greggs was planning to add more vegan items to the menu.
He said: “We’re aware people would like those types of options in some of our savoury categories and things, but they’re more difficult to achieve, frankly, because what we’re looking to do is to find things that have broad appeal because they taste great.”
“In the year ahead, we will continue to focus on delivering the outstanding value and taste that Greggs is famous for.”
Greggs have already added a vegan Mexican Bean Wrap to their menu.
Earlier this year, PETA launched a petition urging Greggs to add a vegan sausage roll to their menu.
They wrote: “More people than ever are clamoring for healthy vegan options from their favorite on-the-go eateries.”
“PETA is calling on Greggs to heed this growing demand, add vegan sausage rolls to the menu, and watch the cruelty-free treats fly off the shelves.”
