Swedish furniture chain IKEA has sold over 1 million vegan hot dogs since they were launched only two months ago.
Found in locations across Europe, Asia and America, IKEA took to Instagram to announce the success of their new vegan product.
In a post, they wrote: “We’re happy that you like the new veggie hot dog as much as we do,”
“In the first two months, IKEA stores in Europe sold around 1 million veggie hot dogs. From all of us at IKEA Food to all of you: 1 million times thank you for making planet positive choices!”
The vegan hot dog was first trialled in Sweden, before spreading across Europe.
This month, it was made available in the UK, and has now reached the US and Canada.
Speaking about the new vegan hot dogs, Michael La Cour, Managing Director at Ikea Food said:
“Every year, 660 million people enjoy the Ikea Food offer, and we see this global reach as an opportunity as well as a responsibility to serve food that is good for people and the planet,”
“With the new veggie hot dog, we can inspire and enable customers to choose a plant-based, more sustainable option at an affordable price.”
IKEA is planning to further expand their vegan culinary options, announcing this summer that they will be adding a vegan soft serve ice cream to the menu in summer 2019.
