Leonardo DiCaprio has announced his investment in the plant-based meat company, Beyond Meat.
As the race to produce plant-based and lab-grown meat heats up, the business is starting to attract high profile attention.
Leonardo DiCaprio has long claimed himself to be an environmentalist yet continued to eat animal products, now the star is urging people to eat less meat to reduce emissions.
“Livestock production is a major contributor to carbon emissions,” DiCaprio shared in a company announcement about his investment, “Shifting from animal meat to the plant-based meats developed by Beyond Meat is one of the most powerful measures someone can take to reduce their impact on our climate.
DiCaprio went on to say: “The company’s ability to create appealing, healthy meat directly from plants will go a long way in helping everyday consumers take action on climate change.”
“Leo is serious about climate change,” Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown tells Fortune. “He’s a really good ally for us.” Brown added that “this is not a celebrity deal. He is someone who genuinely believes in what we’re doing and wants to help grow it.”
Beyond Meat also recently announced that they would begin selling in the UK next year as they look to expand further afield.
