Pizza Express has just launched its new summer menu, which includes a summer-inspired pizza along with a completely vegan dessert.
The pizza, the Leggera Vegan Giardiniera, is topped with artichokes, mushrooms, red onions, black olives, tomato, vegan mozzarella, and a drizzling of garlic oil.
The dessert is a Blackcurrant & Limoncello Semifreddo, comprising of a gluten-free biscuit base topped with a limoncello liqueur and blackcurrant mousse, in a pool of fruit coulis and finished with strawberry and fresh mint.
A semifreddo has the texture of frozen mousse, and is normally made from eggs, sugar and cream.
This new dessert is the first vegan multi-component dessert that Pizza Express has offered to its diners.
Although they have sold vegan friendly sorbet, there have previously been no other vegan friendly dessert options.
Zizzi have been selling their vegan chocolate torte since 2017, and it’s promising to see more chains expand away from the ‘traditional’ vegan option of sorbet.
Large takeaway chains such as Pizza Hut have also expanded the amount of vegan options available to their customers.
Pizza Express have been offering vegan mozzarella on their menus since 2017, and before that, offered a cheese-less vegan pizza, the ‘Pianta’.
Holly Davies, the head of food at Pizza Express, said: “there has been a significant rise in requests from our guests for more vegan-friendly meal options – particularly from fans on our social media pages”.
