Following Richard Branson’s investment in Memphis Meats, a ‘clean’ meat business, he believes the world will be meat free in 30 years.

Both Branson and Bill Gates invested up to $17 million into the business which grows ‘clean’ meat from animal cells.

“Iā€™m thrilled to have invested in Memphis Meats,ā€ Branson said in an email in response to questions from Bloomberg News. ā€œI believe that in 30 years or so we will no longer need to kill any animals and that all meat will either be clean or plant-based, taste the same and also be much healthier for everyone.ā€

Memphis Meats was set up in order to provide an alternative to regular meat. The meat is produced by taking the cells of animals, growing them in a lab, and creating meat which tastes and acts the same as regular meat.

It’s attracted a large number of meat producers across the world who want to remain profitable as the world moves away from traditional meat sources and moves towards “clean” meat or plant-based meats.

Hampton Creek recently announced that they would be the first to market with their lab grown meat.

Tyson Foods, the world’s largest meat producer has set up a specific venture capitalist fund to purely improve their opportunities to “sustainably feed the world”.
