How To Make The BEST Oreo Vegan Chocolate Cake!

Although most packet cake mixes tend to be vegan, I hate using egg replacer! So here’s a really simple vegan chocolate cake recipe, made from ingredients you’ll probably find hanging around in your cupboards at home. The best bit? It’s got Oreo buttercream icing!

For the ingredients listed, this is PER BOWL. This means, you make two bowls as you go along, one being each half of the cake. So for example, where it says 1 cup of sugar, you put one cup of sugar in each bowl.

What you’ll need for the cake (per bowl):

  • 1 and a quarter cups of flour (all purpose or plain)
  • 1 cup of white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of Bournville cocoa powder
  • 1tsp of baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp of white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla essence

And for the icing:

Once again, I use the ingredients below per bowl. One bowl serves as the sandwich filling, the other on top.

  • 1 cup of vegan butter
  • 10 Oreos, crushed
  • 2 cups of icing sugar
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla essence


  1. Get yourself two mixing bowls, and keep them separate.
  2. Preheat the oven to 270C, and grease two cake pans.
  3. Start by putting the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt in each of the bowls, and whisk.15053397_10209173604875972_1704127925_o
  4. Add the milk, oil and vanilla, then mix.
  5. Then, add in the vinegar.
  6. Put one bowl in one pan, and then the other in the other. Cook for 26 minutes, and until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean.15064138_10209173604515963_1069058037_o
  7. Take out of the pans and let them cool completely before icing them.
  8. Get two more bowls, and make equal amounts of icing in each.
  9. Put a cup of butter in each bowl, and beat until smooth and creamy.

  11. Add the vanilla.
  12. Add the icing sugar 1/2 a cup at a time, until it’s thick but still creamy.
  13. Cover one of the cakes with icing, then place the other cake on top. Frost the top of this one, and add leftover Oreos on top for decoration.15053307_10209173603835946_1804184947_o

I must have made this cake 4 times now, and I absolutely love it. It’s so easy, and the ingredients are not hard to find at all. Vegan chocolate cake all around!
